What makes a GREAT entrepreneur?

Why Do You Want to Be an Entrepreneur?I wanted to take a moment today to talk about entrepreneurship.
I'm always curious about why people want to become entrepreneurs. The more I ask, the more I realize that everyone has a different reason.
Recently, while traveling, we met an incredible entrepreneur during a waterfall rappelling tour in Costa Rica.
He was one of the most impressive entrepreneurs I've met in a long time.
What stood out to me most was his attention to detail.
There's a saying in Costa Rica called "Tico Time," which reflects a more relaxed approach to punctuality. Yet he arrived ten minutes early. He was polite, kind, thoughtful, and incredibly professional. His vehicle was immaculate, and from the moment we met him, he made us feel like we were the most important people in the world.
Afterward, I looked up his reviews.
Every single one was five out of five stars.
And they all said the same thing.
He made people feel special.
That's the kind of entrepreneur who inspires me.
During the tour, I asked him how he survived when tourism completely shut down in 2020.
His answer touched me.
He simply said,
"I went door to door cutting grass."
Just thinking about that makes me emotional.
To me, that's entrepreneurship.
You do whatever it takes to keep your business alive.
I sincerely hope he continues to succeed because he deserves it.
This year, I wrote a book about my own entrepreneurial journey called Intuitive Business Connections.
That's really the foundation of this channel.
The book shares many of the lessons I've learned over the past decade—not only about entrepreneurship, but about life, intuition, spirituality, and personal growth.
Those are my favorite topics, so bringing them together in one book felt completely natural.
The entire writing process flowed effortlessly. It honestly felt as though the book simply came through me. I wrote it in just two months, and it was one of the most intuitive creative experiences I've ever had.
Meeting entrepreneurs like our guide inspires me to raise the standard in my own business.
His level of customer service reminded me that people may forget what you say or even what you do, but they'll always remember how you made them feel.
On the drive back, we asked him another question.
"Why do you want to be an entrepreneur?"
His answer was simple.
"I want time."
I smiled because I completely understood.
That's exactly what I want, too.
What's fascinating is that every entrepreneur gives a different answer.
This week, I joined an online community of language school owners from around the world.
Once a month, we come together to talk honestly about our businesses and our lives.
The conversations are raw, authentic, and incredibly supportive.
Although we all own online language schools, we don't see one another as competitors.
We're there to encourage one another, share ideas, and celebrate each other's successes.
That kind of collaboration is precious to me because I truly don't believe in competing with others.
I believe in growing together.
One of the women who founded the group has been running her company for over 20 years.
She's energetic, creative, and constantly launching new projects.
She's genuinely inspiring.
Listening to her made me reflect on my own business.
I've been an entrepreneur for over ten years now, and my goal today looks very different from hers.
She's excited about working ten-hour days and building ambitious new projects.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to work less.
I want to slow down.
I want the freedom to travel, backpack with just a few bags, and live a simple, intentional life.
For a moment, I found myself wondering whether I should want what she wants.
Then I realized something important.
I don't.
And that's okay.
She reminded me that every entrepreneur has a different vision of success.
That's why I love asking this question:
What kind of business lifestyle do you want to create?
I love that phrase--business lifestyle.
Because entrepreneurship isn't only about building a business.
It's about designing a life.
Another woman in our group recently turned down a prestigious full-time position at a respected university.
Most people would have accepted it immediately.
Instead, she said,
"I want the bumpy road of entrepreneurship."
I absolutely loved that.
Because yes—it is bumpy.
There are highs and lows.
There are moments of uncertainty.
But there's also freedom.
There's creativity.
There's ownership.
And there's the opportunity to build a life that's aligned with who you are.
I asked the entrepreneur who has been in business for over twenty years how she's managed to stay so passionate for so long.
Her answer was simple.
"I'm always working on something new."
One year she's expanding into another country.
Another year she's launching a new program.
She's constantly learning, creating, and evolving.
That's what keeps her business fresh and exciting.
I love entrepreneurship.
But I'm also curious about you.
Why do you want to become an entrepreneur?
Or perhaps just as importantly...
Why don't you?
I often speak about entrepreneurship as something magical.
But I also want to be honest.
My journey wasn't easy.
There were years filled with anxiety, uncertainty, and stress before I created the business and lifestyle I have today.
Some people find success very quickly.
For me, it was a slow and steady process.
Looking back, I think patience is one of the most important qualities an entrepreneur can develop.
I always want things to happen faster than they do.
But business has taught me to trust the process.
Every client matters.
Every relationship matters.
Every positive review matters.
Year by year, those small moments accumulate into something meaningful.
It's a gradual process.
One of the things our guide said has stayed with me ever since.
"You can always make more money. You can never make more time."
That deeply resonates with me.
Today, especially with online businesses, there are more opportunities than ever before to create income.
But time is different.
Once it's gone, it's gone.
I see us as global citizens living in a world that's more connected than ever.
I've also been challenging my own beliefs about work.
Do I really need to work eight hours every day simply because society says that's what success looks like?
Maybe not.
Maybe it's possible to build a thriving company while working fewer hours.
Maybe it's possible to create systems that allow the business to grow without constantly sacrificing your time.
Because at the end of the day, that's what I value most.
Time.
Time to travel.
Time to learn.
Time with the people I love.
Time to simply enjoy life.
So I'd love to hear from you.
If you're an entrepreneur—or dream of becoming one—what is the real reason behind it?
What kind of life are you hoping to create?
